About the Design

American Arctic Explorer Matthew Henson, out on the ice, rigging his sled. Ancestor of Actress Teraji P Henson, Matthew was a co-discoverer of the North Pole, with Robert Peary. Before the race for the Pole, he was also instrumental in the survey work that would facilitate the construction of the Panama Canal. Henson lived in NYC and worked at the Museum of Natural History, and also brought back Arctic wildlife samples adding to the museum's collection.
